for the love retreat

For the Love - Joshua Tree

Where do I even begin? When I started teaching For the Love, I wanted to help inspire other artists to find their voices and be them. Not try to be anything but them. We are best at being ourselves after all!

This last retreat was something else. I was newly pregnant, scared to be vulnerable after my year, and so unsure of who I was. I watched on the Grammy's this weekend and Adele said in her acceptance speech, that she lost herself through being pregnant and becoming a mother, and as silly as it sounds, I felt like I lost a piece of myself in this short amount of time. As the retreat went on and began, it was as if, I was finding a piece of my soul that was lost as well.

For the Love is for someone who wants to grow. Who wants to see change. Whether that be in your business practices, shooting, or editing, it's about wanting to push pass the limits that sometimes hold us down.

I love what I do, I love what I have been able to do for over 4 years now. It brings me light, it gives me life.

I can't wait for our April retreat and would love to have you join us. I hope you enjoy this video below made by the wonderful Copper Creative, showing what our weekends are about. If you'd like more information about joining us please email me at emmylowephoto@gmail.com

A huge thank you to my team of amazing women who have worked alongside me since this began. Jade Larsen, who worked as my former assistant, recently left us to pursue other opportunities and I can't thank you enough for the dedication you showed me and showed our retreat, as well as letting us all photograph your beautiful face! Jess Kasteler with Blush Creative, you truly have been my rock through so much of this. Whether it was creating last minute supplies, helping me set up, or just plan, you have been such an instrumental piece of this puzzle. Jill and Tatum, the work you do is untouchable. From getting me ready, to getting our models ready, you bring the vision and beauty I have in my mind to life. I will forever brag about what amazing teammates I have to create such beautiful work. Ashley, thank you for always bringing such amazing visuals to the group. You truly have such a gift in styling and we are so glad we have such amazing pieces to photograph that are of course paired perfectly. Rachel, oh rachel. Our wonderful sunshine and rainbows. You are the light of our group and we love you. You make the most beautiful masterpieces and we could not be more impressed every single time with the beauty you bring to our group. Courtney, thank you for being my right hand this last retreat. I felt so lucky to have you and know that if I felt ill or needed a minute you'd be right there by my side. From an attendee to a best friend, I have love watching your gift grow and love of photography. Bri and Chloe, we are so happy to have you guys with us now. You both are so fun and so incredible in all you do. I feel like I always saw you working and never stopping. I can't thank you enough for capturing our retreats perfectly for the people around us to see what we do! Last but not least, thank you Ashtyn Aure. For the Love Retreat Video

Hey there friends! So I am sitting here watching this video over and over and tears just flowing down my face. Granted I am a tad emotional today but then seeing this and seeing my dreams come to life, I just feel overwhelmed with happiness.

I wanted a video that represented me and represented what you get if you attend a retreat. Those things to me are happiness, motivation, feeling of success, and community. The girls that come to the retreats have a special place in my heart because while I am teaching them they are also teaching me. Teaching me to be aware of others in the industry, to help them grow with challenges, to watch them feel success as we are shooting and learning new things and then to take all of that back home and make a kick ass business.

I love this program and love what I do. I hope you can see that through this video, that was made absolutely perfect by Bri and Jan Robbins from Robbins Creative. They are so special to me and really made my dreams come to life.

Want to sign up for our December retreat in Palm Springs go here! Or email emmylowephoto@gmail.com we are offering a special for a short time and have 3 spots left.

For the Love Fall Retreat

This is one of those posts where I honestly feel too much, and end up totally over sharing so bear with me. After teaching for 5 years in the education field, I knew that teaching would always be a part of my life. From the first workshop that I taught, I felt the magic click. This was my calling- where I was meant to be.. I knew how lonely it could be in the beginning, and I also knew without a doubt it didn't have to be that way for others.

When we started to plan the first retreat it was so important to me that every detail fit into place. I think that the setting for learning really lends to how well you are able to learn. I wanted the attendees to feel welcome, appreciated and valued.  Without these incredible ladies that opened up their hearts, I wouldn't even have had this opportunity. Yes, this retreat was about learning, but it was also about taking a step away from the everyday and really, I mean reallllly, digging into why we do what we do. I wanted the environment to really let everyone open up and create. From the opening dinner, catered by Food Made By Tom, to the final night of chatting and reviewing images from the week, it was the perfect chance to begin and end in a safe and inviting environment.

So what is For the Love about? It's about finding you. In the beginning of the photography journey, it's so easy to fall into the trap of idolizing another photographer, from their editing style to how they speak. This so often leads to comparing, which I think only leads to disappointment. Real, meaningful work comes from the heart, from doing things for the love of them. Self-discovery and appreciation is key. A lot of time was  spent asking "why do I do this?", me oversharing on my life and experience, and then talking through how we can get to the point where we're creating the work we KNOW we can. One of my favorite parts of this retreat was that these women walked away with close relationships, and people who would continue to cheer them on in their business. These photographers found their voice, and found a network of people to inspire and encourage them.

I still have a handful of spots left for the For the Love spring retreat (April 22nd-24th in Utah) and if a little self-love and a push towards authentic creativity is what you need, I would LOVE to have you take this step in your business with me. If you took the time to read this, that tells me that you're ready to invest in yourself and your business.  Know that the opportunity is rewarding and worth it (and full of treats and late nights and incredible photo shoots). If you have any questions at all, please send me an email. I would love to take some time to talk to you about any questions about the upcoming retreat. Feel free to send me and email at forthelove@emmylowe.com.

Just to wrap, below is a gallery of all the shoots we did and an amazing video that Janae Godfrey put together! It was so important to me to give the attendees variety in their portfolio. We will be mixing up what shoots we do for the next retreat, I can't wait to show you what we put together! Huge thank you to Jill (makeup), Tatum (hair), Ashley (styling), Jess (design work), Rachel (florals), Haley (teaching assistant) and Jade (coordinator/assistant) for all your work and being there for me though all the crazy nights. You all are quite the amazing group of women and I am honored to call you my friends! I couldn't have done this without you.  I think I've thanked them at least 500 times at the retreat and here's one more thank you for all of you. My rocks, seriously.
